Head Coach, Benjamin Moyo dies in a freak accident
SHURUGWI, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwean football has been rocked by the news of the death of 39 year old FC Platinum head coach, Benjamin Moyo who died in a freak accident.
Benjamin who is young brother to ZIFA Board Member in charge of competitions Benedict, died early this morning after drowning in a pool in Shurugwi during FC Platinum’s training camp ahead of a league fixture.
Born in 1972 at Gwai river mines, Benjamin did his primary education at Torwood in Redcliff before proceeding to St Augustine in Hwange for his secondary education.
He later enrolled for an apprenticeship in bricklaying at Ziscosteel before turning to coaching where he attained his first coaching certificate alongside Zimbabwe Saints head coach Willard Khumalo.
Benjamin never looked back as he engaged in coaching on a fulltime basis which took him to Highlanders, Amazulu and Chapungu.
He also had a coaching stint in Botswana after which he went to the United Kingdom where he attained a UEFA licence coaching certificate before returning home in December last year.
Benjamin was appointed head coach at New Boys FC Platinum a position he held until the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife Elizabeth and two children Bheki and Fevi.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
