ZAPU is broke
Masvingo,- The Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) under former intelligence supremo and politburo member, Dumiso Dabegwa, is broke, a senior party official confirmed to Radio VOP on Monday.\r\n
ZAPU national treasurer, Macdonald Muswere, said donors had not been that forthcoming ever since Dabengwa broke away from President Mugabe’s Unity Accord which he signed with the late ZAPU founder, former Vice President Joshua Nkomo.
Muswere said the party had failed to grow or put up proper structures in rural areas.
“Ever since we have formed the party, we have not been receiving much funding. The party should have grown as fast as it has had, but lack of funds has hindered this,” Muswere told Radio VOP. “Come elections time, we may partner with either ZANU (PF) or the main faction of the Movement of Democratic Change (MDC-T).
“But I am happy that our president is off the sanctions list, he can now travel outside to look for funding,” Muswere said.
ZAPU contested in the previous elections but failed to get a single seat in parliament.
