ON October 10, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea celebrates the 70th anniversary of the formation of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WKP). The Workers’ Party of Korea, which organises and guides all victories of the people of the DPRK was founded on October 10 1945.
The WPK is guided by Kimilsungism-Kimjongilism, the essence of which is the Juche political ideology and the Songun idea.
Advanced by President Kim Il Sung in June 1930, when Korea was under Japanese military occupation (1905-1945), the Juche idea maintains that the masses are masters of the revolution and construction, and that they are also the motivating force of the revolution and construction.
In the same vein, the Songun idea underlines that the revolution and construction should be advanced with the army as the main force on the principle of giving precedence to military affairs, were
Since then the Korean revolution has registered only victory under the banner of the Juche idea and the Songun idea.
Carrying forward the ideas and cause of President Kim Il Sung, Chairman Kim Jong Il applied these ideas in a thorough-going way in the whole period of leading the WPK.
Having advanced the policy of modelling the whole Party on Kimilsungism and consistently advocating it, he formulated the Songun idea as well as the Juche idea as the great guiding ideology of the WPK after the demise of President Kim Il Sung on July 8 1994, and led the building and activities of the WPK to be conducted as required by the Juche and Songun ideologies.
Thanks to this, the WPK was further consolidated as an ideologically pure body equipped with the Juche and the Songun ideas and demonstrated its might as a party that steadfastly adheres to its principle whatever the tempest of history.
It could also invariably holds fast to the banner of socialism without any slightest deviation and vacillation in the closing years of the last century amid the harshest isolate-and-stifle schemes resorted to by the allied imperialist forces.
The Juche and Songun ideologies are recognised by the progressive peoples of the world as the guiding ideology of the cause of independence of mankind.
The WPK has achieved rock-solid unity.
Unity can be called a major criterion of a party’s invincibility and might.
The WPK’s unity, whose foundation had been provided by President Kim Il Sung, its founder, was consolidated by Chairman Kim Jong Il. He attached great importance to solidifying the WPK’s organisational and ideological unity based on one ideology and pure moral obligation and led the efforts to this end.
The rock-solid unity of the WPK reached a higher stage thanks to Songun politics which Chairman Kim Jong Il formulated in a comprehensive way in the mid-1990s.
With the achievement of oneness in ideas and working style between the service personnel and civilians based on the revolutionary soldier spirit and consolidation of the whole society as a powerful socio-political force, the single-hearted unity of the society of the DPRK reached a new, higher stage.
This is why the WPK was able to follow the road of socialism without any slight vacillation when the communist and workers’ parties of other countries were experiencing the tragedy of division and disintegration in the past.
The WPK enjoys an absolute support and trust of the people of the DPRK. The secret is that it has been built into a motherly party that devotedly serves the people.
Belief in the people and reliance on them at all times means that you shall always emerge victorious. If you are forsaken by them, you will always fail. This was the life-long motto of President Kim Il Sung.
Embodying this ideal of “The people are my god,” Chairman Kim Jong Il of the National Defence Commission paid special attention to developing the WPK into a motherly party that looks after people’s destiny on its own responsibility.
He ensured that every line and policy of the WPK reflected people’s aspirations and demands to the fullest, and advanced such slogans as: “Let the whole Party go among the masses!” and “We serve the people!” leading all the officials of the WPK to always mingle with the masses and fulfill their duties as people’s servants.
He saw to it that such people-oriented policies as free medical service and free education were invariably enforced even in the days when the country’s economic situation was difficult.
First Secretary Kim Jong Un of the WPK, who is faithfully implementing the ideas and cause of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il, advanced another slogan for the WPK, “Everything for the people, everything by relying on them!” and enforces politics aimed at loving people and giving precedence to them.
Under his leadership, modern houses and bases for cultural and emotional life are mushrooming in the DPRK these days, and epoch-making changes are taking place in building a thriving socialist country, a people’s ideal.
It is not accidental that the people of the DPRK absolutely trust and follow the WPK, calling it motherly party, and are filled with the will to cast their lot with it to the end. That such a party is always invincible is a truth proved by history.
The WPK will always emerge victorious.
Down-with-Imperialism and WPK
On October 17, 1926, the Down-with-Imperialism Union (DIU) was formed.
The formation of the DIU was a historic declaration of a new start of the Korean revolution, and a significant event that provided the Korean people with a radical turning-point in carving out their destiny.
The DIU was the first revolutionary organisation President Kim Il Sung (1912-1994) of Korea formed when the country was under the military occupation of Japan.
At that time, he realised that the country’s independence could not be achieved by the early communist movement and the nationalist movement, which were affected by the scramble for power, factional strife, flunkeyism and dogmatism, made energetic efforts to find a new way for struggle.
In the course of this, he organised the DIU with young revolutionaries of a new generation sharing ideas and purpose.
The DIU set as its immediate task the destruction of Japanese imperialism and achievement of Korea’s liberation and independence, with the ultimate aim of building socialism and communism in Korea and, further, destroying all imperialists and building communism throughout the world.
The history of the Korean revolution spanning nearly 90 years witnessed the victorious advance of the Korean people along the road of independence, the road of Songun and the road of socialism, pioneered by the DIU.
The principle of independence set out by the DIU has become an invariable principle for the building of the Workers’ Party of Korea and its activities.
The WPK has held fast to this principle developing the political, military, economic, cultural and other fields on its own judgment, at its own discretion and in its own way.
In solving all the problems, it has always rejected foreign domination and interference, and gave foremost consideration to the reality of the country and the interests of its people.
After the country’s liberation (August 1945) it took the road of Korean-style democracy in the building of a new society; after the Korean war (1950-1953), which was caused by the aggression of the United States and completely destroyed the country, it advanced an original line of economic construction on giving priority to heavy industry and developing light industry and agriculture in parallel; and when the great-power chauvinists pressured it into entering the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, the WPK resolutely opposed it and adhered to its line of building an independent national economy.
All these facts demonstrated that the WPK had thoroughly observed the principle of independence.
It was thanks to this principle of independence that socialist Korea could advance straight along the road of socialism, even though the imperialists asserted that it would be doomed to the same fate as other socialist countries that collapsed in succession in the closing years of the 20th Century.
The idea and line of a Songun-based revolution that trace their origins back to the DIU are the eternal path of the WPK.
Ever since its founding, the WPK directed primary efforts to building and developing the armed force.
As it constantly implemented the idea and line of Songun, it could repulse the armed invasion of the US, boasting of it being the “strongest” in the world, in order to nip in the bud the DPRK, which was less than two years after its founding, and defend the freedom and sovereignty of the country with honour.
In the postwar days, too, the DPRK set forth the line of carrying out economic construction and defence building simultaneously to cope with the constant military threats and challenges by the US, and put emphasis on military up-building.
As a result, the US always surrendered to the Korean army and people in the incidents it had triggered off, including its armed spy ship Pueblo and large espionage plane EC-121 incidents in the 1960s and the Panmunjom incident in the 1970s.
Towards the 90s, the last decade of the century, the US and its imperialist allies conducted anti-DPRK stifling offensives unprecedented in history, taking advantage of the collapse of several socialist countries.
Under such circumstances, the WPK formulated Songun politics as the main political mode of socialism and put greater effort at strengthening the country’s military capabilities.
The Songun-based leadership of the WPK the Korean People’s Army has thus developed into an invincible army that is matchless in ideology and faith and fully prepared both for defence and offensive.
Coping with the ceaseless war threat by the US and its increasing nuclear threat, the DPRK has prepared its self-reliant nuclear deterrent.
The WPK has consistently built and developed socialism, based on the gigantic ideal and goal of the DIU.
Under its leadership the DPRK has been built into a socialist state, centred on the masses of the people, in which they are the masters of everything and everything serves them.
It has liquidated exploitation and oppression of man by man for good, and everybody is equally well-off. All members of society are guaranteed political freedom and rights as well as the rights to work and relaxation.
Universal free medical care and compulsory education are in force; all its citizens are provided by the State and society with necessary conditions for food, clothes and housing and thus lead an equal and stabilised life.
The WPK, having safeguarded socialism in the worst trials at the end of the last century, is now rousing its people to the building of a thriving socialist nation, working world-startling miracles day by day.
In recent years alone, the world-level cultural establishments for the masses, such as Mirim Riding Club, Munsu Water Park and Masikryong Ski Resort, were built in the country, making the happy laughter of the people louder.
The WPK that advances unflinchingly along the road of independence, the road of Songun and the road of socialism pioneered by the DIU will always win victory and glory in the future. – Embassy of the Democratic People’s republic of Korea
