The three Mashonaland provinces and Harare yesterday announced they would back Khaya Moyo "in the spirit of the 1987 Unity Accord".

Bulawayo and Matabeleland South provinces had already nominated Khaya Moyo for the chairmanship.

Matabeleland North had nominated two candidates — Khaya Moyo and Obert Mpofu.

The seven nominations in Khaya Moyo’s favour means he is assured of being named national chair at Zanu-PF’s congress in December.

A person requires the backing of six of the 10 provinces to get a post in the Presidium.

He will take over from John Landa Nkomo, who secured sufficient nominations to ascend to Vice President and Second Secretary.
