Tsvangirai's brother faces negligent driving charges

The accident injured three people at the intersection of Kirkman and Tynwald roads in Westlea at around 8:24pm.

Casper Tsvangirai (52), who was driving a Toyota Hilux, allegedly failed to give way at a controlled intersection to a red Navigator Lincoln vehicle that was being driven by Joe Saina.

Tsvangirai was in the company of one Richard Mhungu (35) and Nyengeterayi Tsvangirai (30) while Saina was in the company of Blessing Chibika (18) when the accident occurred.

Police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka confirmed the accident.

"We are preferring charges against him (Casper) that amount to negligent driving," Chief Supt Mandipaka said.

He said investigations were in progress.

It is reported that Saina was travelling along Kirkman Road while Tsvangirai was travelling along Tynwald Road.

Tsvangirai, it is alleged, attempted to turn right without giving way at the controlled intersection resulting in a collision.

Tsvangirai, Mhungu and Nyengeterayi sustained some bruises on their legs and were taken to Avenues Clinic for treatment.

Saina and Chibika sustained head injuries and were taken to Mabelreign Medical Centre for treatment. Tsvangirai’s vehicle was damaged on the right fender while Saina’s vehicle had its windscreen shattered and had a dent on the driver’s door.
