Chicken Inn gaffer Joey ‘Mafero-Mafero’ Antipas in title dream

CASTLE Lager Premiership log leaders Chicken Inn gaffer Joey ‘Mafero-Mafero’ Antipas believes that if only they can manage beat Dynamos on Sunday then the race for the title would much, much easier for the Gamecocks.

The Gamecocks lock horns with defending champions Dynamos in a potentially explosive top of the table clash at Barbourfields Stadium.

\n

If the Gamecocks win on Sunday then it might be as good as game over for Dynamos given that they would be trailing the log leaders by 10 points.

\n

With seven matches before the curtain comes down on the 2015 Castle Lager Premiership season, Chicken Inn lead the log standings with 49 points while Dynamos are third with 42 points

\n

The match, which is likely to have a huge bearing on the race of the 2015 Castle Lager Premiership, is a must win for Antipas is his team entertains hopes of clinching the title for the first time since joining the top flight league.

\n

Interestingly, Dynamos are expected to come into this encounter with the venom of a wounded lion after the Harare giants were humiliated in their own backyard in the reverse fixture played at Rufaro stadium earlier in the season.

\n

Dynamos were thrashed 3-0.

\n

However, the former Arcadia United defender reckons that it will not be easy to beat Dynamos though he remains confident that his team is ready to deliver.

\n

In a telephone interview from his Bulawayo base this week, Antipas said every match that they are now playing is difficult given the reverting race for the title.

\n

“This is going to be another difficult assignment for us. It will certainly not going to be easy to beat DeMbare but we will give it our best shot.

\n

“We have been preparing for the match just like every other match we have played this season although we are aware that this match will come with its own challenges since it is going to be featuring two teams that are gunning for the title.

\n

“One thing that I know is that if we manage to beat Dynamos, it will vastly improve our chances of winning the title. In fact, if we manage beat Dynamos on Sunday the race for the title would much, much easier for us,” said Antipas.

\n

The former Motor Action mentor said his record against Dynamos as a coach has not been bad and he is confident that he will prevail against the country’s best supported outfit.

\n

“I have faced DeMbare as a coach and I know they are a difficult side to beat but I have managed to beat them before hence I do not see why we could fail to do it once again. We hope we will also be able to utilise the advantage of playing at home,”

\n

He confirmed that his team will be missing Passmore Bernard who is out on suspension after accruing three yellow cards.

\n

“The only absentee that we can confirm at the moment is Passmore Bernard who is out on suspension after accruing three yellow cards. Yes, there are players with minor injuries but I hope they will be able to recover by the time we play Dynamos on Sunday,” he added.

\n

Elsewhere in the league, the battle to evade relegation continues for Manicaland based teams in the top flight league – Buffaloes and Dongo Sawmills.

\n

The Mutare army outfit, Buffaloes make the long trip to the Midlands where they date unpredictable Chapungu tomorrow (Saturday) while Dongo Sawmills face Hwange at home at Vengere Stadium in Rusape on Sunday.

\n

Dongo was aiming to get nine points out of their matches against Chapungu at home, Buffaloes away and Hwange at home but it now appears that the best they can get is now four points from those three matches that is if they manage to beat Hwange on Sunday.

\n

Dongo were held to a goalless draw by Chapungu at Vengere Stadium in Rusape and got beaten by Buffaloes at Sakubva stadium.

\n

Relegation is slowly becoming a reality for the Rusape side after they settled at the bottom of the 18 team log table since the start of the season until now.

\n

Very few, if any pundits, can give them a chance to turn the tables and survive relegation although there is not much gap between them and the teams lying just above them on the log table.
