Deputy Minister In Child Maintenance Row

Undenge, who was customarily married to Rosemary Nyamande, was on Friday ordered by the Harare Civil Court to pay $50 per month per child. The wife had proposed $600 with effect  from September 2009.

In her affidavit Nyamande stated that she was failing to pay fees, purchase uniforms and other necessities for the children since was also meeting accommodation costs. Nyamande earns a monthly salary of $124 and her rentals are $168 per month. She had not received maintenance for the two children from Undenge since January.

The court ruled that the minister should pay the fees for the two children who are pupils at Blackstone Primary School, with effect from September. The fees are $100 per child per term.

The court ruling read: “The respondent (Undenge) shall be responsible for the payment of all school fees and levies as well as the purchase of all school and sporting uniforms for the two minor children.”

In his response Undenge who has another wife, agreed to maintain his children “I wish to take up full responsibility of paying all school fees and levies for the children as well as the purchasing of school and sports uniforms.

Undenge who had a pay slip of $458.75 attached to his court submissions also promised to register the two kids on the Public Service Medical Aid Scheme.

It is not the first time that Undenge has been hauled before the courts. His former wife Angeline Undenge, once dragged him to the courts demanding payment of school fees for his two children with the woman.
