Zimbabweans held for gun-point robbery

"Patrolling police officers in the area arrested the three men on the corner of Honey and Fife streets during the early hours of today [Wednesday]," said Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla.

Police heard a gun shot and investigated. They found a woman who told them she had been robbed by the three men.

They arrested them a few minutes after the incident.

"It emerged that they had robbed another man of his cellphone at gunpoint."

The woman’s handbag, the stolen cellphone and a gun were found in their possession.

They told police they had hired the gun for R400 before leading police to the gun’s owner, who was arrested.

They would soon appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court to face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm, robbery and attempted murder, said Mavundla. – Sapa
