Zicosu is the country’s second largest student representative body and is aligned to President Robert Mugabe’s ruling Zanu PF party.

\n

Addressing journalists in Harare on Tuesday afternoon, Zicosu vice president Stanley Moyo and other members of the student union’s national executive announced Chidawa’s expulsion after allegations arose that he abused female students and victimised others by claiming to be Mnangagwa’s son.

\n

“In accordance to section 33.5 of the union constitution Chidawa is fired for putting the name of the union into disrepute by using his position to sexually abuse young, innocent female students,” said Moyo.

\n

“He has also been going around claiming to be the son of Zimbabwe’s vice president Honourable Emmerson Mnangagwa using a fake national identity card that bears the name Tonderai Mnangagwa, and not his real name, Tonderai Chidawa,” Moyo said.

\n

Moyo added that “Chidawa was also abusing his position as the Zicosu president by forcing students around the country to advance political agendas of unnamed senior Zanu PF officials rather than the country’s President Mugabe”.

\n

A dramatic moment ensued at the end of the meeting when Chidawa stormed the press conference and accused Moyo and other senior members of the student body of being sponsored by expelled former Vice President Joice Mujuru.

\n

“I don’t know what these guys are talking about, this is just rubbish. They have been sent by Gamatox group [Mujuru group],” shouted Chidawa.

\n

“I am not going to say much to journalists at the moment, but will wait for directions from Zanu PF headquarters.”

\n

A political analyst who spoke to News24 said this was “clear evidence that infighting within Zanu PF has also spilled into the students union body”.

\n

Mujuru, with 16 ministers and several other top Zanu PF officials, was fired last year over allegations they were plotting to kill Mugabe.

\n

Recently Mujuru openly told Mugabe that she could never be expelled from the “genuine” original Zanu PF, while also openly querying for the first time the mysterious death of her husband, General Solomon Mujuru, whose remains were found after an inferno at their Beatrice farm in 2011.

\n

However, Zanu PF newspaper The People’s Voice said Chirawa was expelled for linked to the Mujuru cabal.

\n

The Voice says Tonderai chirawa who was the president of the union with Tinashe Mashambo who is the secretary general wrote a suspension letter to Stanley Moyo and Shoko with a date for their hearing still to be advised.

\n

It says that the newly elected Deputy President of the Union, Stanley Moyo and Onismore Shoko have been secretly meeting with ousted Zanu Pf members of the Mujuru Cabal.

\n

Tonderai Chidawa, President of the Union said it is counterproductive to have the Deputy President of the Union working against a President who was constitutionally elected.

\n

“Our mandate as a union is to support and actively participate in the revolutionary party –ZANU PF programmes and the averment and not undermine the authority of both the party and the government,” reads the letter.

\n

“Your misconduct and association with the expelled Zanu PF members has brought the name of the union into disrepute .In accordance with the vision, mission and objectives laid out in the preamble of the constitution of the union, you have undermined the glory of the union.

\n

“Your behavior has shown that you are unrepentant as you have continued to work, convening, mobilizing and canvassing support for the Mujuru cabal, which undermined the authority of the President.

\n

“You were advised to reprimand and to desist working with the enemy, but you have proved to be a rowdy element and therefore you have been relieved of your duties,” reads part of the letter.
