MUTARE – Expelled former Zanu PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa had his nomination papers rejected by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission at the close of nomination today, having filed them in the ruling party’s name.

The rejection follows an objection filed by lawyer and Zanu PF provincial secretary for legal affairs Misheck Mugadza in which he argued that the party had long suspended Mutasa and was not sponsoring his candidature.

\n

Zanu PF is sponsoring the candidature of Mutasa’s long time nemesis Christopher Chingosho, who won last week’s intra-party primary elections by 1 200 votes.

\n

Chingosho’s victory was however attributed to vote-rigging, busing of supporters and vote-buying by Oppah Muchinguri and Patrick Chinamasa.

\n

ZEC provincial officer Mr Moffat Masabeya consented to the objection and disqualified Mutasa from contesting the June 10 by-election.
