Michigan State revokes Mugabe's honorary degree

Mugabe led the struggle to overcome white minority rule over what then was called Rhodesia. But he now faces wide domestic and international opposition over Zimbabwe’s economic collapse and political repression.

The Lansing State Journal reports Michigan State trustees voted unanimously today to revoke the degree, accusing Mugabe of violence, aggression and intimidation.

Zimbabwe Embassy spokesman Wilbert Gwashavanhu in Washington says Mugabe is a national hero and unifier who deserves praise for his leadership.
