The recent cabinet resolution will see parents now being asked to contribute towards the cost of the Grade 7 examination at a cost to be announced while O-level examinations fees have been increased from the current US$13 to US$15.

Zimbabweans who spoke to the media said the timing is not good considering that most parents, especially from the rural areas are failing to pay school fees, let alone examination fees.

Some, however, welcomed the move saying the resolution by cabinet will help cushion the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) on costs of achieving and delivering good results.

The approved O-level examination fees for written, practical and oral subjects will go up by US$2 from the current US$13 to US$15.

Advanced Level examinations fees remain unchanged at US$26 for all subjects.
