Khaya Moyo belongs to us — Mutasa

EXPELLED former Zanu PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa yesterday dared party national spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo to speak the truth and publicly admit that he belongs to the ruling party faction led by ex-Vice-President Joice Mujuru instead of pretending otherwise.

Mutasa said this after Moyo denounced him for threatening to contest the Headlands seat by-election on a Zanu PF ticket.

\n

“Was he (Moyo) truly not one of us, one of the Gamatox? We should be truthful about what we are and what we stand for. I remain unlawfully expelled,” Mutasa said.

Contacted for comment over Mutasa’s claims, Moyo said: “I don’t comment on tissues, but I comment on issues.”

Moyo served as Zanu PF national chairman prior to the December congress and was highly tipped to assume the Vice-Presidency, but was instead demoted to the spokesman’s role once held by the expelled Rugare Gumbo.

Mutasa yesterday vowed to defend his Headlands parliamentary seat.
\n“Yes, I shall contest. I do not want to let my members down. I will contest as the original Zanu PF candidate,” he said.

Zanu PF sources last week said Moyo was next in the firing line as he is widely believed to be linked to the Mujuru camp, also known as “Gamatox team”.

\n

Sources said Moyo was supposed to have been axed before or soon after the December congress alongside Mujuru and several other party bigwigs, but survived after he and Defence minister Sydney Sekeramayi “privately” apologised to Mugabe and his wife Grace.

Mutasa was expelled from the party recently together with his nephew and Hurungwe West MP Temba Mliswa.

Zanu PF has since written to the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda to declare their seats vacant. – NewsDay
