Nine arrested for murdering Zimbabwean

According to the police, the nine men – all South Africans, were drinking at a tavern in Souringa village, Maleboho and attacked their Zimbabwean counterpart with various weapons after he had had an argument with one of them, at about 1am Sunday.

“They were drinking together in the tavern and the Zimbabwean picked an argument with one of the locals,” a police spokesman, Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba confirmed the incident to The Zimbabwean Monday.

“During the argument, some local men, who were not even part of the argument, violently intervened and attacked the Zimbabwean with clenched fists, while others stabbed him all over the body.”

The Zimbabwean, whose details have not yet been released, as his next of kin had not been advised, died on the spot.

“The culprits all ran away from the scene after the attack, but we managed to account for all of them a few hours later and a murder docket has been opened against them,” said Supt Ramatseba, who added that the suspects would appear in court this week.

He however, ruled out suggestions that the attack could be xenophobic. (The Zimbabwean)
