Zimbabwe asks for US$8-10 billion to reconstruct economy

MBABANE (Reuters) – Zimbabwe has requested $8-10 billion in assistance to help rebuild the country's devastated economy, South Africa's Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said on Monday.

Dlamini-Zuma said the Southern African Development Community was reviewing a Zimbabwean recovery plan requiring that financial assistance.

The figure is almost double that which Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai previously said was needed to rebuild the economy.
