Tsvangirai leaves hospital

Harare – Zimbabwe Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Saturday left the Harare clinic where he was treated for injuries sustained in a car crash that killed his wife, an AFP reporter outside the clinic said.

Tsvangirai walked out of the Avenues Clinic accompanied by his deputy Thokozani Khupe, Finance Minister Tendai Biti and Economic Planning Minister Elton Mangoma.

Onlookers outside the clinic applauded as he came out, before he was driven away in a maroon Mercedes Benz.

A truck hit Tsvangirai’s car on Friday as he and his wife Susan, 50, were travelling from Harare to Buhera, their rural hometown where the new prime minister was to speak at a rally on Saturday.

His wife was killed in the crash while Tsvangirai escaped with relatively minor injuries.

The truck belonged to a US aid agency "partner" for Aids drug delivery, a US embassy official said. – AFP
