IN WHAT is seen as a continued purge of the ex-VP Joice Mujuru faction President Mugabe has fired seven more cabinet ministers, a government notice said Sunday.

    \n

    \n

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, said the ministers have been fired with “immediate effect”.

    \n

Sibanda said “it had become apparent that their conduct and performance were below the expected standard and outcome”.

    \n

According to the statement, the fired are lands deputy minister Tendai Savanhu, deputy minister of transport, Petronella Kagonye, minister of state Sylvester Nguni, State Minister Flora Buka, deputy minister of Health Dr Paul Chimedza; Tongai Muzenda deputy minister of public service, labour and social services and Fortune Chasi deputy minister of Justice Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

    \n

Ironically, Kagonye was in her Goromonzi South constituency Saturday where she called for investigations into shady deals involving some Zanu PF councillors whom she said were linked to former Mashonaland East provincial chairperson Ray Kaukonde.

    \n

Kagonye said this while distributing wheelchairs, blankets, maize seeds and bed covers.

    \n

The purge started with eight Zanu PF provincial chairpersons and their entire executive members through votes of no confidence.

    \n

This was followed by the firing of Mujuru and other eight ministers. Among other things, they were also accused of being part of a plot to oust Mugabe.

    \n

The latest development comes as no surprise as speculation was rife that Mugabe would fire more ministers.

    \n

Observers see the purge as being orchestrated by justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa who replaced his rival Mujuru as the first VP. The purge has seen giants who include former intelligence minister Didymus Mutasa fall by the wayside. – Newzim
