Zanu PF in orgy of political violence

The MDC is totally outraged by Zanu PF’s well-calculated political backlash where the party that is claiming that it won the 31 July elections is targeting perceived MDC supporters country wide in the aftermath of that fraudulent election.

Thousands of perceived MDC supporters in Mudzi, Uzumba and Maramba Pfungwe in Mashonald East, Muzarabani, Shamva in Mashonaland Central and in Mashonaland West have fled their homes following systematic and well-calculated retributive attacks by Zanu PF youths.

So serious is the situation that children, women and the elderly have fled and are living in the mountains and other places of refuge without food and shelter, creating one of the worst humanitarian crises since 2008. Not only are people being forced off their homes but jobs also.

\r\n

In Maramba Pfungwe, a two bed roomed house owned by Wellington Sandi was last week razed to the ground in an arson attack by Zanu PF members. Sandi was the chief election agent for the MDC parliamentary candidate for the area.

A report was made at Nyakasoro Police Station but no arrests have been made although the suspects have been identified.

\r\n

Again in Marambapfungwe, 70 year old Chengetanai Chimunhu, wife and three grand children have fled their home after a mob of Zanu PF militias besieged their homestead at night. In 2008 Chimunhu’s homestead was again razed to the ground by fire in an attack by Zanu PF arsonists.

\r\n

At Ceres Farm in Ward 20 of Shamva South, nine people perceived to be MDC supporters have been left jobless after a Zanu PF ward councillor, Earnest Manyara and the Zanu PF branch chairperson only identified as Mazai ordered them to stop reporting for work accusing them of being MDC supporters.

\r\n

The nine are also facing eviction from the farm compound, which is owned by a Zanu PF senior member Nicholas Goche. As a party, the MDC finds it strange that Zanu PF is using such intimidation and harassment when it is claiming that it won in the recent elections.

\r\n

We wonder why the victor should be afraid of the people and the actions by Zanu PF vindicate the MDC’s position that Zanu PF is covering up something.  This level of intolerance by Zanu PF is not only primitive but totally repugnant to modern dictates of democracy.

\r\n

The continued heinous atrocities by Zanu PF against MDC supporters have left many suffering the worst form of indignity and the MDC strongly condemns these acts and calls upon the police to investigate these cases before they degenerate into a humanitarian catastrophe.
