MDC Harare Province : Response to planned demonstration against Finance Minister Tendai Biti

Whilst we appreciate that Zimbabwean civil servants are generally poorly remunerated and thus, demotivated, we smell a rat regarding the civil servants' planned demonstration against Finance Minister Tendai Biti on Tuesday, July 24, 2012.

\r\n

More so, we are rather puzzled by the apparent zeal, eagerness and the record swiftness with which the ZRP has sanctioned the planned demonstartion.

\r\n

As MDC Harare Province,we have no doubt in our minds that the planned demostration has been stage-managed by certain nefarious characters who would want to woodwink the general public into believing that the Finance Minister is unreasonably and insensitively refusing to give civil servants higher salaries that are commensurate with the poverty datum line.

\r\n

We wish to place it on record that the Finance Minister cannot and indeed, should not, be individually blamed for the Government’s collective failure to pay civil servants competitive salaries.

\r\n

Civil servants should, instead, demand full disclosure of where the proceeds from the diamonds sales are being channeled to.They should also demand answers as to why the proceeds from the diamond sales are not being directly channeled to Treasury.

\r\n

Put simply, civil servants should refuse to be used and abused by selfish political turncoats who, over the years, have looted the State coffers dry.In these circumstances, therefore, the civil servants’ demonstration planned for Tuesday, July 24, 2012, is completely misdirected and misfocused.
